Adventure Groups for Young People

A role-playing game (RPG) is an interactive storytelling experience in which players collaborate to solve puzzles, find treasure, defeat monsters, and save the day!

When used with upper-elementary, middle, or high school students, the RPG format is a powerful vehicle for promoting creativity, teamwork, and social connection. Participants also have opportunities to develop social-emotional skills like active listening, perspective-taking, disagreeing agreeably, and tolerating frustration.

Adventure groups typically meet for between four and eight 90-minute gaming sessions. No special equipment or prior experience with role-playing games is required.

In addition to groups for young people, Jason leads single-session adventures for families and professional teams.

Recent adventure groups...

During the summer of 2021, Jason offered four adventure groups. Each one offered a unique and quirky quest for the young adventurers to undertake!

Chronicle of the Calcified Customers. Our heroes are recruited by the proprietor of the Snorting Elk Inn, the area's best (and only) hotel-restaurant. The innkeeper is in crisis because everyone who ate the fish chowder that morning at brunch service -- the patrons, the waitstaff, the cook, everyone -- turned to stone in the middle of the meal! Will the heroes be able to ascertain the agent of the affliction and fix the fossilized foodies?

Chronicle of the Problematic Pastries. Our heroes are contacted by the caretaker of the shrine of luck, who has received a troubling note on the eve of the shrine’s semiannual bake sale. One of the most generous contributors to the fundraising event appears to have been taken hostage by a mysterious adversary who demands an audience with representatives from the town! Will the heroes be able to convince the contemptible kidnapper to free the captive confectioner from his clutches?

Chronicle of the Ghastly Gangsters. Local shopkeepers seek help from our heroes, reporting that bandits have recently begun raiding along the road into town. From a makeshift fortress, the outlaws have ambushed numerous trade wagons, threatening the merchants and stealing their loot. Even worse, the terrified survivors have reported that these are no ordinary bandits... but undead ones! Will the heroes be able to stop the shady shenanigans of these skeletal scofflaws?

Chronicle of the Broken Beacon. Villagers from the southern coast seek out our heroes with a troubling report about their local lighthouse. The beacon, which has for years been maintained by a reclusive wizard, usually projects magical golden light, guiding ships to port. Shockingly, the beam has inverted, projecting shadows during the day and becoming invisible at night. Will the heroes be able to identify the impetus of the inverted illumination, restore the shine, and ensure sea-going safety?
